Happy Valentine’s Day!

Traditionally, on Valentine’s Day, we express our love for others while self-appreciation often goes neglected. Not the case this year, my friends!

Here is a list of 14 ways you can show your body love, care, nourishment, gratitude & respect today.

1. Prioritize self-care. In my latest article for the “Nourish” column in Tonic Magazine, I’m talking all about the importance of prioritizing self-care here. And you can listen to my latest podcast interview here.

2. Acknowledge and appreciate what your body can do. Remember it is the instrument of your life, not just an ornament.

3. Eat when you’re hungry. Having nourishing snacks & meals on hand is a wonderful way to take of yourself. To save time – try getting your groceries delivered.

4. Be gentle with yourself. Life is tough enough! Today – practice using a softer, more accepting tone with your self-talk.

5. Wear clothes that feel comfortable on the body you’re in right now. When my body changes, I use it as an opportunity to find some new clothes at second-hand stores.

6. Think of 3 characteristics that you value about yourself that have nothing to do with your appearance. And then repeat after me – I am so much more than my body.

7. Reach out to a friend who reminds you of your beauty and value, beyond your body.

8. Have fun moving your body. For so many, exercise can be connected to weight loss. Let’s ditch that and focus on FUN. Google different exercise classes in your area or videos online and explore joyful movement possibilities. Fitness Marshall anyone?

9. Cook for yourself or order in. Give yourself unconditional permission to choose any meal you desire.

10. Plan a “mini-retreat”. Put your phone on airplane mode for 10 minutes or a few hours tonight. Have a bath, watch a funny show, read and settle in to some restorative alone time.

11. Enjoy low-key stretching. Light a candle, turn on relaxing tunes and gently stretch…or just lay down. Find your breath, notice the difference in your body before, during and after.

12. Treat and literally talk to yourself the way you would your best friend. How are you going to show your bestie, Mom or partner love today? Can you practice showing yourself some of that loving kindness?

13. Turn on some feel-good tunes and dance! My sisters know what I’m talking ‘bout.

14. Let yourself rest. Caring for yourself involves learning how to rest when your body needs it. Go to bed early and thank your body one more time for all that it did for you today.

PS: If you’re reading this having a challenging body day – the word love might feel too far out of reach. It’s important to honor where you’re at. So if self-love doesn’t resonate with you right now – try swapping the word love for care or respect, instead.

Have a lovely day! You are so loved.
